Use the supported connector catalog when it already covers the service. Connections may use OAuth, API key or token, or hosted MCP depending on the provider.
Search the catalogue in Settings → Connectors before building anything custom.
Try this
✦Open Settings, choose Connectors and type your CRM's name into Search integrations before building anything custom. If it is listed, open its card and follow the OAuth or API key setup it offers; only fall back to a custom MCP server if the service is not in the catalogue.
What you getThe card shows the connection method the service supports, such as OAuth, API key or Hosted MCP, and connecting through the catalogue takes a minute compared with standing up your own server.
Add a custom MCP server
Go to Settings, Connectors, then Add a custom MCP server. In the web app, choose Hosted HTTPS, enter a clear server name and the MCP endpoint URL, then add the server.

MCP servers
Connect external tools that extend Lato's capabilities. Browse the catalog, or add a custom server.

Add server
What is MCP? The Model Context Protocol is an open standard for connecting AI systems to external tools. Hosted servers connect to this cloud app. Local commands and filesystem servers belong in a desktop MCP client because cloud paths are not files on your computer.
Settings → Connectors → Add a custom MCP server: hosted HTTPS only in the web app.
Try this
✦Go to Settings, Connectors, then Add a custom MCP server. Leave Hosted HTTPS (URL) selected, enter the name jobs-board and the URL https://mcp.example-plumbing.com/mcp, then click Add server.
What you getThe server appears in your installed list with its name, URL, a status such as Pending, Authorization required or Connected, and a count of the tools it exposes.
Keep local servers in a desktop client
Local commands and filesystem servers do not belong in the cloud web app because cloud paths are not files on your computer. Use an appropriate desktop MCP client for those servers.
Add my projects MCP server. It runs as a local command and reads the agency's C:\Projects folder. Then list this month's active projects.
◆ Lato · Pro
That server is a local command, so C:\Projects is not a path this cloud app can reach. The Add custom MCP server form takes only a hosted HTTPS URL; Stdio is marked desktop only. Keep it in a desktop MCP client on that computer.
A cloud app cannot see C:\Projects; local servers stay in a desktop client where the files are.
Try this
✦In the Add custom MCP server form, notice that Stdio is greyed out and labelled desktop only. If your server is a local command that reads the agency's C:\Projects folder, close the form and add that server to a desktop MCP client on the same computer instead.
What you getThe web form accepts only a hosted HTTPS URL, and the local server keeps running where the files actually are, so nothing points a cloud app at a path that does not exist there.
Check policy, status, and capabilities
Your organization may control whether custom MCP is allowed. Confirm connection status and available tools, then test with non-sensitive data before wider use.
List the tools you have from hr-policies, then fetch the public leave policy only. Do not touch personal records.
◆ Lato · Pro
hr-policies is Connected with 3 tools: list_policies, get_policy and search_policies. Fetched Leave policy (public): 20 days annual leave, 10 days personal leave, requests at least two weeks ahead. I called get_policy once, for that document only; no personal records were read.
Status and tool count first, then one call against a document that is already public.
Try this
✦On the installed hr-policies card, click Test and read the status and tool count. If your organisation has not allowed custom MCP, stop and ask your admin. Otherwise attach the server in a new session and ask:
List the tools you have from hr-policies, then fetch the public leave policy only. Do not touch personal records.
What you getThe card reads Connected with a tool count, or Failed or Authorization required if something is wrong, and the trial call touches only a document that is already public.
Attach it when needed
Open the composer plus menu, choose Connectors, select the server, and confirm the connector chip. Remove it after the turn when its context is no longer required.

Attach the server to one chat from + → Connectors, and remove the chip when you are done.
Try this
✦Click +, open the Connectors tab and select warehouse-stock, confirm the connector chip, then ask:
Which of our top 20 SKUs are below their reorder point right now?
Once you have the answer, remove the chip before drafting the supplier email.
What you getThe reply is grounded in live stock data from your server, and removing the chip afterwards keeps that context out of the supplier email turn where it is not needed.
